The primary food for butterflies and moths is nectar. As they fly from flower to flower in search of food, they pick up pollen and deposit it to the next flower, cross-pollinating plants of the same species in the process. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the successful pollination of some plants such as the yucca plant is dependent on moths.
