Penguin predators include orcas and leopard seals. Although penguins do not fly, one trick they use to escape from predators is to leap into the air onto an ice shelf. According to BBC, they jump by reducing the drag on their feathers at will, which allows them to accelerate through the water towards the surface. They trap air in their feathers by moving the shaft muscles of their feathers before they dive into the water.

As they go down deep into the water, the trapped air is compressed. It is released as penguins swim towards the surface at high speeds, which reduces the resistance on their bodies. By reducing the drag, the micro-bubbles act as an aquatic lubricant, allowing them to accelerate and leap out of the water.

Wrens are songbirds found in Australia, which are able to learn the language of other neighbors. Researchers taught the birds to recognize two previously unknown sounds to them as distress calls by playing them in conjunction with the wrens' alarm call, which the wrens associated with danger. After three days, the birds run for cover when they heard the strange sound they learned.
