ON WHAT DO ARCTIC TERNS FEED?
Arctic terns are seabirds with a wingspan of 65-75cm (25.6-29.5in). They are 28-39cm (11-15.4in) in length and weigh 90-120g (3.2-4.2 oz), depending on the species.
They feed on fish, insects, and crustaceans and follow an opportunistic feeding approach. When the bird spots fish near the water surface, it dives and catches the fish and eats it on the wing.
When flying south to escape the northern winter, the Independent reported that Arctic terns spend time in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean feeding on fish before they continue on their journey.
