The biggest bird is the ostrich, weighing up to 145kg (320 lbs) and stands up to 2.7 meters (9 feet) tall. Its eggs are the heaviest in the world, weighing about 1.4kg each.

Ostriches mainly live in the Africa desert and savanna lands and feed on grass, fruits, and flowers and sometimes lizards and snakes. They are flightless and obtain the water they need from what they eat. They are equipped with long, muscular legs and are quick on their feet.

With a maximum speed of 70 kilometers (43 miles) per hour and a stride of 3 to 5 meters (10 to 16 feet), ostriches are remarkable birds.

However, the Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori) of Africa—with females and males weighing 9kg and 18kg respectively—is the most massive flying bird in the world today.
