WHY ARE BUTTERFLIES UNABLE TO FLY IN THE MORNING?
Butterflies are unable to fly in the morning because they are cold blooded. When butterflies spend the night perched on a leaf, their body temperature is so low in the morning that they are unable to fly.
They stay on the twig or leaf and spread out their wings in the sun, and when their body temperature rises sufficiently, they fly away. While morning basking in the sun is enough for a butterfly living in the tropics, butterflies that live in temperate climates pause under the sun several times a day.
