The females head to the sea just after laying a single egg each and leaves it under the under the care of the male for the next two months.

When they reach the sea, they can dive to more than 560 meters (1,837 feet) in search of food, a depth not matched than any other bird. After two months the females walk back to the breeding grounds and relieve the starving males from the duty of incubating the eggs. The male penguins then head to the sea to hunt for themselves.
