WHAT IS THE LONGEST BIRD MIGRATION?
The bar-tailed godwit made the longest nonstop bird migration ever recorded. According to National Geographic, it flew from Alaska to New Zealand nonstop in 9 days.
Godwits make the journey every year across the vast Pacific from their northern summer breeding grounds.
When they set off in September, over 50% of their body is fat, and they fly for over 200 hours nonstop. The following March, the birds fly back to Alaska, and the cycle continues.
