The Africanized honey bee, informally known as the “killer bee” is a cross-breed between various European honey bees (Apis mellifera ) and the African honey bee (A. m. scutellata).
Africanized honey bees are incredibly protective of their queen and hive and will attack people or pets that get near the colony. Killer bees usually strike without warning. Anticipating an attack is difficult.
Bees attack elephants and send them running for cover. They attack the soft spots such as the eyes ears and mouths.
“Bees can chase a herd of elephants for over a mile,” said a former park ranger, “and elephants sense when they are in the wrong. When elephants disturb a bee colony, they try to get away from the area as soon as possible. Bees don't negotiate; the only language they speak is to sting the aggressor."
It takes only one bee to find you, and the rest of the colony will follow you after that. Try to get away from bee territory as soon as you can. Rather than run it is best to hide in the car. When bees attack, they can follow you for a distance of up to a mile.
Aggressive protection of their hive and queen protects bees from extinction and benefits humans. The more bees present in an area, the better for crop pollination and honey production.
The relationship between bees and humans shouldn't be a love and hate affair. Bees are useful to humans for many reasons. They are helpful in the pollinate crops and processing of honey. Honey is an antibiotic on acne and wounds; provides energy and is sweet to the tongue.
